Founded in Bremen in 1919

Four generations, one movement: stretch the cloth and check it.

We are a craft business, not a sales operation. Whoever calls us speaks to someone who cuts sails — and who will remember your boat after the first appointment.

Workshop

Precision you only see out on the water.

In our hall, cutting, sewing and final inspection are under one roof. Plotters and design software do the calculating — the decision on how much depth a profile needs is still made by a person with wet sleeves.

This mix of modern production technology and handwork is why shipyards commission us for one-off builds: we deliver reproducibly and with documentation, without turning into a production line.

Location

A loft in the port of Hamburg where everything is under one roof.

Cutting, sewing and final inspection are under one roof in the loft at Dampfschiffsweg in Hamburg-Harburg — short distances from design to finished seam. The registered office and administration are in Schenefeld.

Cutting and sewing

Plotter, design software and sewing stations are in the same hall. There is no transport route between design and finished seam.

Our own electricity

Part of the energy for production is generated on our own roof — an investment we started before the move.

Room for big sails

Mainsails for yachts of more than 30 metres can only be checked laid out flat. That is what the hall was built for.

History

Milestones that have shaped the company.

From the workshop in Bremen through forty years in Lemwerder and back — the milestones that have shaped the company.

1919

Founded in Bremen

The company sews sails for Weser and coastal craft. Everyone learns the trade by hand, at a table.

1950s

First racing sails

With the rise of racing, the first class patterns are created — the beginning of our archive.

from 1970

Four decades in Lemwerder

The company grows and moves to Lemwerder on the Weser. For more than forty years, sails for dinghies, yachts and classics are built there.

2013

A network beyond Germany

The dealer and service network reaches as far as Mallorca and Croatia. At the same time we invest in new machinery for production.

2015

Back to Bremen

Over the Christmas holidays the entire sail loft moves from Lemwerder to the Lloyd industrial park. Five new employees join in the same year.

Today

Hamburg, Mallorca, Adriatic

Production in Hamburg, service in Germany, the EU and Türkiye. From the Opti to the megayacht.

Projects

From the 6mR to the thirty-metre yacht.

What is created in the loft is hard to sort into a single category. Five examples from recent years.

Classic racing yacht

6mR Hankø III

A 6mR rig is an arithmetic problem with tight tolerances. The suit of sails was built from a measured plan — and raced in the same year.

Classic

Traditional yachts

For many classic designs the patterns are in our archive. Where they are missing, we reconstruct them from old sails, photographs and measurements.

Performance

Brenta 55

A suit of sails for a yacht that has to be fast and look good at the same time. Both are possible — if profile and cloth match.

Large yacht

Jongert · 30 metres

Three Jongert yachts of this size sail the world’s oceans with suits of sails from our hall. Projects like these run for months, with their own project management.

Bremen

Wappen von Bremen IV

The ship of the sailing association “Das Wappen von Bremen” — a project particularly close to our hearts.

In-house developments

Five names with real work behind them.

What we have developed ourselves carries its own name — so that you know what is meant when you read the quote.

Test procedure

Beilken SPC®

The sail test: profile, cloth and seams are inspected and documented. At the end there is a recommendation — repair, rework or build new.

Choice of material

Beilken SMM®

The material matrix places shape stability, service life, weight and price side by side. Not the best cloth, but the right one.

Membrane

Millenium Membrane

Our membrane range, since 2014 also available as an Endurance version for cruising yachts. Continuous fibres along the load lines.

Sun protection

SAILSKIN®

Sun awnings for the cockpit, shaped and tensioned rather than simply laid over. From the same hall, with the same knowledge of cloth.

Design

COLOUR UP!

Colour in the sail, not as a sticker but in the cut. A way to make a boat unmistakable.

Where to find us

Built in Hamburg, looked after in your sailing area.

Measuring and repairing works best where the boat lies. That is why there are service points and partners beyond Schenefeld.

Germany

North Sea and Baltic Sea

The loft in Hamburg, plus service points in Flensburg and Berlin. We group appointments on the coast so that travel does not end up on your invoice.

Abroad

Mediterranean and Adriatic

Mallorca, the Adriatic, Tittmoning and Salzburg — grown out of customer demand, not out of a franchise concept.

On site

Nordseewoche Helgoland

At Whitsun we are on site with our repair service, together with our representative from the Elbe — in the boat hall of WSC Helgoland.

The sail loft as a meeting place

In winter the hall becomes a lecture room.

Chairs are set up between the sewing stations. Sailors talk about their voyages — and you do not have to be one yourself to listen.

Lecture series

Who has already been here

Boris Herrmann on the Jules Verne Trophy, Mareike Guhr on her voyages around the globe, Olympic competitor Paul Kohlhoff on Rio and the America’s Cup, Sönke Roever on 1,200 Saturdays on board.

Attitude

Why we do it

The series is organised together with the sailing association “Das Wappen von Bremen”. Admission stays low, and donations go to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) and to youth work.

Attitude

What you may judge us by.

We say what will not work

If a repair makes more economic sense than a new sail, we recommend the repair — even though we earn more on a new build.

One contact person

Measuring, design and trim are in one pair of hands. You explain your boat once, not three times.

A deadline is a deadline

We promise what we can keep. If it gets tight, you will hear it from us before you have to ask.
