Rig parameters

Side view of a boat with a plumb line dropped from the masthead and the horizontal distance to the mast axis
Mast rake: drop a plumb line from the masthead to the deck, then measure the horizontal distance to the mast axis.
Four mast profiles with bend at the top, in the middle, at the bottom and without bend
Mast bend: where does the mast deviate most from a straight line — and how large is that distance in centimetres?

Rig dimensions

Sail plan with the rig dimensions I, J, P and E on the mainmast and PY and EY on the mizzen mast
The rig dimensions on the standing rig — all figures in metres.

Wind conditions

Headsail type

Foretriangle with the four headsail sizes jib 85 to 90 per cent, genoa 3 at 110 per cent, genoa 2 at 130 per cent and genoa 1 at 150 per cent
The larger the genoa, the further aft the clew sits. Multiple selection possible.
Headsail with the LP dimension as a perpendicular from the clew to the luff
LP dimension: the shortest distance from the clew to the luff, measured at right angles.

Cut & cloth

Clew height

Three headsails with a low, medium and high clew above deck
How high should the clew sit above the deck?

Standard equipment

Telltales are included with every headsail.

Headsail showing the position of the class insignia and sail number
Position of the sail insignia and sail number in the headsail.

Special equipment

Headsail tack on deck

Three tack fittings at the forestay: ram’s horn with two eyes, closed eye and shackle
How is the tack of the headsail attached on deck?

Measuring on deck

These dimensions determine the sheeting. If you do not have them to hand, we will take them later.

Track and shroud base dimensions

Measure all lengths on deck. The reference point is the forestay.

Plan view of the foredeck with the dimensions A, J, F1 to F4 and W measured from the forestay
Plan view of the foredeck. All figures in metres, the starboard side is shown.

Track offset from the centreline

Measure all lengths on deck. The reference point is the boat’s centreline.

Plan view of the foredeck with the offset dimensions O1 to O4 from the centreline to the tracks
Measured at right angles to the centreline. All figures in centimetres.

Foretriangle and tracks

Measured diagonally from the forestay head at the mast to the respective point on deck.

Side view with the diagonal dimensions V1 and S1 to S4 from the forestay head to the track points
These diagonal dimensions complement the deck dimensions F1–F4 and give the sheeting angle. All figures in metres.

Forestay system

Cross-section through a foil forestay with a groove for the luff tape and through a bare wire forestay with a hank
Foil forestay with groove or bare wire forestay with hanks.

Luff tape (LB)

Measure the old luff tape with a vernier caliper.

Foil forestay with luff tape and an enlarged detail in which the thickness LB is measured between two caliper jaws
Measure the thickness of the luff tape on the old sail.

Furling system

Alternative to the bare wire forestay — please complete only one of the two blocks.

Side view of a furling system with the dimensions V, V1, V2, V3 and V4 and the two directions of rotation
The direction of rotation matters so that the UV cover is sewn onto the correct side.

Alternatively: wire / hanks

Only fill in if no furling system is fitted.

Previous sail dimensions / desired dimensions

Measure the sail laid out flat with the edges pulled taut.

Headsail laid out flat with the dimensions luff VL, leech AL, foot UL, foot round and the area
Dimensions of the existing or desired sail.

Battens

Headsail with the three batten lengths L1, L2 and L3 in the leech
L1 is the bottom batten, L3 the top one. Measure the lengths taut, in centimetres.
